Teaching

Environmental, science, and health journalism

I teach undergraduate and graduate level courses focused on how news organizations and journalists cover complex environmental problems.

International reporting

I work with students in exploring how news organizations in the US and Latin America cover international stories. We also explore media systems in Latin America and their relationship with governments.

Education abroad

Experiential learning is fundamental for students in environmental journalism and communication. I have developed and led three education abroad programs at MSU.

I led a group of six students across diverse places, including Lima, Cuzco, and Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon rainforest.

I worked with 12 students in this program that focused on understanding the relationship between media, NGOs, governments and industries in the context of the European Union.

The first program I led visited Lima, Paracas, Huaraz, Cuzco, and Puerto Maldonado. A group of eight students pushed thier intellectual and physical boundaries in a life-changing program.
